The technique that I used is basically etching a zinc plate and get their prints with oil-based ink.  One of the prints was done using a pronto plate. Multiple prints were then gathered and rendered differently using colored pencils and acrylics.

A 3D model of Shiekh Saeed’s house located in Dubai  and is considered as one of the most important historical buildings. The aim of modeling the house is to document such buildings.

This group project went through three main stages. it began by taking photographs of the main elements of the building such as the building facade, interior and exterior decorations, plans, doors, windows and interior rooms. Those plans were then taken and traced and extruded to their approximate elevations in google sketch up where interior elements were then placed accordingly. The project then took an individual direction where each student was to finish of the project. The above is the final look of the project where I have taken the .skp file to Artlantis and got rendered JPEG files of specific areas of the house.

Decorative, Reading Lamp (Cardboard)

This is the lamp that I made out of cardboard and is used both as reading light as well as decorative lighting.

The concept was that if we recycle more we will allow trees to grow and we will get to see trees continue growing.The lamp then represents a growing tree. I have cut out different lengths of a shape that represents a tree and made a growing pattern out of it. I have then, placed the lighting fixture in the middle so that a pattern of shadows are created on the surface.

In order to be able to redesign any existing space an analysis/survey of the space has to made. In the case of lighting design a lighting analysis has to be conducted by the designer. The analysis will study the functions, task & activities of the space in order to understand: the location of lights, type of light fixture and the type of light.

Return to your bedroom room, living room and kitchen survey from your previous semester projects and study/survey the current light both natural and artificial and based on your study analyse your new lighting requirements for the specifies spaces.

Your presentation should be clear, well drawn and highly presentable using both annotated drawings, plans and pictures.

I have photo surveyed and analyzed a 56 sq/m room. The survey was done according to three scenarios: morning, midday and evening. The final presentation was a rendered reflected ceiling plan, annotations and a research paper.

Design Concept:

Like any simple gown designed by Giorgio Armani, the Armani fashion brand is a name associated with class and an evolution that maintains its genuine identity. The beauty of the Armani brand lies in the fact that it is accustomed to the public trend preserving its own identity; and even though that Armani had created a number of fashion lines, they all remain connected to each other with a sense of fluid elegance.

The new Armani Hotel room at Burj Dubai is designed based on that concept to complement the fine lines of Giorgio Armani and also to represent an extension of Armani’s 5^th Avenue concept store, where it is no longer of a neoclassical style, but more of a futuristic and minimalist one.

Design Description:

A sense of dynamism that is sometimes curbed down by the luxury of the place dominates the room. When you first enter the room, your eyes are taken by uniqueness of the form where all four walls, ceiling and floor are connected with a single fluid form that sometimes extends to create pieces of furniture such as the luggage stand, a vanity table and a T.V stand and the bed. Those curvatures are emphasized through the use of fluorescent light.

Eco Friendly Hotel room:

Since the main challenge is to create an eco-friendly design, the finishes are very important. For the floor, a dark mahogany finish wool floor finish seems to be appropriate and also to equalize the distribution of positive and negative space. The chosen T.V. is the LED Samsung T.V which contain zero percent mercury and paint and reduces 40% of electrical power. Finally, that forms is made out of Gypsum, which is considered an Eco-friendly material to use.

Since those shapes are so dynamic, it is then recommended to have them of subtle colors such as beige. The dark brown colors comes in as a complement to the overall design, again to emphasize other pieces of furniture and finishes.

Furniture:

Another challenge was added to the equation of the design through having some pieces of furniture from the Armani Casa collection and at that moment, it was either it is going to make or break the design, through testing how those pieces of furniture would bled them self in the futuristic room that is away from neoclassic.

The Design Process:

The final design was a result of going through a cohesive process of sketching and developing the final designs. It involved sketching, modeling and developing all through the stages of the design and the eliminating process. This was also accompanied with some challenges that were faced as a result of losing the train of thoughts sometimes. If I had to do this all over again, I would concentrate on detailing the final design and experimenting with those extensions of furniture from the original forms.

Aston Martin Stand At the Motor Show

The aim of the project is designing small spaces and learning about commercial projects.

Objective:

Design a stand  -theory- at the motor show exhibiting latest Aston cars along with the new concept car.

Concept:

In 2008, Aston Martin unveiled a car called “one -77” where only 77 of this car will be build. The director of the project described it as the golden section. This car is unique since it not just a vehicle, it is a piece of art.

My concept was that to create a stand that is an art piece inspired by the golden section,; some thing that is divine in beauty.

The Stand:

The final design accommodates 3 cars and the concept car. The concept car is by the pool so that its reflection emphasizes its hierarchy and beauty. The stand also had a conference room as well as a sales section.

The distribution of the cars was done according to the golden section. On the other hand, I have tried d to create a piece of art – sculptural form- inspired form the one-77 and the golden section.

“Performing water shaping the interface between man and space” was the title of the two day workshop for students of interior design and architecture. After designing  a concept bathroom, 26 finalist from different universities qualified for the workshop where they were introduced to the concept of “ Ritual Architecture”. The first day of the workshop was mainly dedicated to explaining the concept of ritual architecture through case studies, evolution of bathroom and understanding space. At the end of the day, students were given a scenario and based on it, they should research and design the interior of this space.

The Scenario:

We had to design a space for a couple with two children of a multicultural background . The apartment is in Burj Dubai that takes the shape of a cylinder. The requirements for the task were a floor plan, sections followed by a description.

Day one!

I have arrived to the workshop just before the end of the first working day and I had no idea what the students have been learning and what the task is, but Kurt C. Reinhardt was kind enough to spend an hour with me to go through all of what the students have been discussing the whole day and advised me to research  and develop a concept.  The next  day, I came in with an idea in my head and a sketch pad in my hand. My concept was basically that water and air shape the interface between man and space, just like a bubble and based on that I have drawn a series of perspectives and submitted the work after 7 hours of work.

While the jury were trying to reach a decision,  the students we taken to the 13th floor to wrap up the evening with an enjoyable get-together and the announcement of the winner.

Finally, I would say that the workshop taught us a lot more than what it was intended to since we were exposed to a global learning environment where students were of different backgrounds, spoke different languages and had different art and design education.

This exercise aimed at learning how to understand clients and their needs and design a yacht accordingly.

I have chosen the famous Chad Kroeger from the Band ” Nickleback” and the case was that he will be living on this yacht for 3 month with no more than one guest.

Concept   : “…when Eco meet rhythm”… it is when great rock music is made and when a design is in harmony.

Lines:

Rock music is all about lines; they can be curvy, straight, diagonal, vertical, zigzagged…etc. “..when eco meet rhythm” is also a combination of lines that describe it. But when it comes to designing a space based on that philosophy, the design might not work best unless there is a kind of flow and a clean transmissions from using one line to the other across those spaces. For example, the bedroom could be deign off curvy lines, the kitchen is a combination of curvy and straight lines, and finally the living room is designed using only straight lines.

Colors:

The color palette is inspired from the latest album of the band “Dark Horse”, the colors are black, white and blue. These three colors work perfectly with the theme since it actually resembles surviving artists. Those artists live off making rock music, that is “…when eco meet rhythm”.

Style:

Keeping the design of a certain style might limit the possibilities that this design would take. However, the yacht  might be a combination of both contemporary and classical rock to give it the strong identity it needs.

Fruit Garden’s Kiosk

The Design concept is that the kiosk takes the shape of a
tornado giving customers that ultimate fruit service. I have chosen to go with the shape of the tornado because I was inspired by the form created in a cup when stirring an orange juice right before taking a sip.
